Iranian ‘The Recess’ to vie at Spanish fest

Iranian short flick ‘The Recess’ has been selected to compete at the 2021 Calzada de Calatrava International Film Festival in Spain.

Written, produced and directed by Navid Nikkhah-Azad, ‘The Recess’ is a 12-minute film that tells the story of a 17-year-old school-girl who runs away from school to watch the football match of her favorite club.

The short flick’s cast list includes Mojan Kordi, Reyhaneh Nabeean, Niloufar Shokouhinia, and Ghazal Khalili.

‘The Recess’ has participated in several international festivals, including the Visioni Corte International Film Festival in Italy, the Sanfrancisco Frozan Film Festival in the US, the Johns Hopkins Film Festival in the US, the River International Film Festival in Italy, and the Vox Feminae Festival in Croatia.

Nikkhah-Azad’s flick has previously grabbed the best short film award at the Johns Hopkins Film Festival and the best short film award at the Oxford Film Festival in the US.

The Calzada de Calatrava aims to support young filmmakers and to create a space for communication and exchanging experience.

The 2021 edition of the event is scheduled for August 6-21.
